Uplighting puts the fixture at ground level and sends light up through a tree canopy, across stonework, or along the vertical lines of your home. It adds height and drama that no other technique can, turning a mature tree into a centerpiece and giving columns and peaks real presence at night. The trick is restraint, because a yard where everything is uplit reads as nothing at all.
What deserves an uplight, and what doesn't
Not every tree earns a fixture. We look for strong branch structure, interesting bark, and placement that matters from the windows and angles you actually see. Then we match the beam to the subject, hide the fixture from view, and check the aim at night. A handful of well-chosen uplights beats a yard full of mediocre ones every time.
